What is PAT Testing?

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination, but some types of defect can only be found by testing. Businesses have a legal obligation to ensure their appliances are maintained and kept in a safe condition.

PAT testing is a requirement of most public liability insurers and also means your business will be compliant with:

• The Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989
• The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations of 1998
• The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations of 1999
